Orange Shirt Day is an influential movement sweeping across Canada and the world that is helping to educate our students and communities on the history and legacy of the Indian Residential School system.
Orange Shirt Day was created during the St. Joseph Mission Residential School Commemoration Project in Williams Lake, BC, in May 2013. Former student, Phyllis (Jack) Webstad, told her story of her first day at residential school when her shiny new orange shirt, bought by her grandmother, was taken from her as a six-year old girl, which prompted the realization that many survivors have similar stories. This year September 30 falls on a Saturday - so schools will commemorate on Friday. On Friday September 29, please wear any piece of orange clothing. Please get your marked writing assignment - événement d'été signed by a parent and return it to Mme Jacobsen by Friday, September 29th.
Complete questions #1 and #4 on pg. 15, if you did not complete them in class.
Please ensure that your parents contact either me or the office if you will not be attending school on Friday, September 22nd.
Good copy is due at the end of the period on Friday, September 15th. All work should be completed at school. Only research can be conducted at home.
The following forms need to be completed asap:
Pick one of the topics that we brainstormed in class today (see list below) and research that topic to gather specific details of the event. Please only use reputable news sources and print articles on your chosen topic or write detailed notes to bring to class tomorrow.
Quels sont les événements les plus importants, autour du monde, qui sont arrivés pendant l’été?
List one academic and one non-academic goal for the 2017-2018 school year. Also list a minimum of 3 steps to achieve each goal. Due on Wednesday, September 6th (if you did not already hand it in).
